Sarah Geronimo’s major hit song ‘Tala’ ranks at the top in the WorldVision 2020 Music Contest – Kicker Daily News

The results have been released and Sarah Geronimo’s “Tala” representing the Philippines emerged on the top for the Woldvision 2020 Music Contest.

“Tala” earned 222 points and 50,298 total votes beating 118 countries during the first edition that ran from September 26 -December 26, 2020 which went through 12 rounds. This song continues to rank among the top 10 most popular Filipino songs in 2021.

The hit song was first released in January 2016 and is part of the Popstar Princess’s “The Great Unknown” album. From only 19M views on YouTube in December 2019, it skyrocketed to 166M views as of January 2021.

The dramatic comeback in popularity of the song began after a barangay volleyball team danced to it as a protest to a certain “Aling Nelia” who wanted them to stop playing. The video uploaded on Facebook earned more than a million views. Since then it was part of major dance challenges performed by netizens and famous stars.

The song has earlier received recognition and awards. In 2016, it was nominated three times for the Song of the Year category. It won the Awit (Song of the Year) award in Parangal Paulinian. In 2017, it clinched as the ‘Favorite Music’ and Favorite Music Video in the Myx Music Awards.

Following the Philippines in the Worldvision 2020 rankings are Italy, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Sweden, Mongolia, Albania, Puerto Rico, Uganda and Latvia on the 10th spot. Aside from Italy and the Philippines, voters have preferred entries from less popular countries.

Worldvision 2020 is being hosted by Bulgaria’s Popnable, the house of music charts of songs from around the world producing lists on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis. It has a goal of competing over 100 countries. Users can suggest a song and vote for it. The song with the most votes in a country will represent that country.

It seems that Tala’s success still lingers up to this day, 5 years after its release. Congrats, Sarah!
